Observability Platform discovery
We are in discovery to understand how teams across the Ministry of Justice monitor and investigate the behaviour of their applications and infrastructure.
This work will help us understand what a future Observability Platform should provide, based on teams’ needs and experiences rather than starting with a selected tool.
Current service and future discovery
The existing Observability Platform is hosted on Modernisation Platform and uses Amazon Managed Grafana. Its architecture and runbooks describe the current service.
The current offering is intended to be retired in the future. This discovery does not announce a retirement date or migration timetable, and does not mean the current service has closed. Existing onboarding and access guidance remains in the user guide.
The discovery has a broader scope than the existing service. We want to understand experiences across Modernisation Platform, Cloud Platform, and other Ministry of Justice teams. Taking part does not mean a team is onboarding to a new service.
What discovery is for
We want to understand:
- The observability tools and approaches teams use today.
- What works well and where there are gaps or difficulties.
- How teams monitor service health and investigate incidents.
- The effort involved in operating and maintaining existing tooling.
- Shared requirements and differences between teams and environments.

The future solution, architecture, and service offering have not been established through this discovery. The topics documented here are areas to investigate, not a committed service catalogue or delivery roadmap.
These pages do not announce a selected supplier, a replacement service ready for use, or a migration requirement for existing users.
